Hartford Care COVID-19 update
Latest Update from Sean Gavin CEO of Hartford Care (9th July 2020).
As you might imagine, it has been a very busy period as the guidance on life in a care home continuously evolves with the understanding of how the virus develops. We are following this guidance closely, and regularly updating our procedures to take account of the guidance. We are also pleased to confirm that we are managing to maintain good supplies of PPE to facilitate best practice in each of our homes.
With care, comfort and companionship at the heart of everything we do, we know you will appreciate that the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff has to be our priority and we thank you for your continued support and patience, whilst we adapt to the ‘new normal’.
Recent weeks have also seen a massive upturn in the volume of our staff and residents being tested. We touch wood as we say this, but we are relieved to report that in the last six weeks, across the group, no residents or staff have had positive test results. We are immensely proud of the efforts that everyone in our teams has made to achieve this.
Whilst in recent weeks we have focussed on the safety and security of our staff and residents, we are acutely aware that the steps we have had to take to protect ourselves from the virus are not without consequence. Most notable of these has, of course, been the ban on visitors to our homes. Our teams have been wonderfully creative as they have sought to maintain contact by video calls and other means but, nonetheless, we recognise that there is nothing like the real thing.
Since Boris Johnson slightly relaxed the lockdown rules, our teams have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety of our residents and fellow colleagues and we are, again, so proud of how they have adapted to yet further changes. We continue to allow small groups to meet in outdoor spaces, whilst socially distancing. We are pleased to facilitate small family visits in our gardens within the parameters of the new guidelines. Please contact our homes to arrange your visit. We are naturally dependant on good weather so please bear with us if there are short-notice changes.
As our homes are all unique, there will be slightly different arrangements at each location. However, we must recognise that so many of our residents are extremely vulnerable so – in every instance – please speak to the home before visiting to ensure you are aware of PPE and local policies.
Even in the current climate, it doesn’t rest at all well that we must impose such conditionality on an important visit to a loved one. We do hope that you understand that, having made our homes Covid-free in recent months, we are simply seeking to ensure the continued safety of our staff and residents moving forward.
Please rest assured that we will revert to normal life at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, stay safe and well.
