From Receptionist to Administration Manager
Meet Simbarashe “Simba” Murebwa, who, having dedicated herself to improving the lives of our residents at Burnham Lodge at Burnham in Buckinghamshire, is progressing her career with Hartford Care.
When she was living in Swansea in 2019, Simba decided she wanted a change of environment, so joined the team at Burnham Lodge in October that year as its admin receptionist. Hers is usually the friendly face that everyone visiting Burnham Lodge will see upon arrival.
Simba’s pro-active approach to her role at Burnham Lodge has seen her develop herself through learning more about life in the care home and seeing where she can make a difference.
“I am naturally a very eager individual, who has always been excited to learn new things and skills,” Simba says. “I am always willing to go above and beyond for Burnham Lodge because ultimately, I believe our residents will always benefit from it.”
Such is Simba’s dedication for going the extra mile colleagues nominated her as a Hartford Hero. “This was a big shock to me, but it definitely encouraged me more to continue to work hard. I was then promoted to administration manager.”
Simba’s dedication was evident throughout the most challenging times during the pandemic. She happily rolled up her sleeves to help with daily chores such as washing up and cleaning to help her colleagues and residents of Burnham Lodge, all whilst managing her regular daily tasks.
Her typical day, she says, is all about “putting on a friendly face for everyone who comes into Burnham Lodge”.
It also involves ensuring all visitors complete the necessary Covid-19 checks, such as taking and recording their lateral flow tests. She attends daily meetings where she discusses any administration matters then ensures all emails and phone calls are dealt with efficiently.
“I love my job and, in particular, I love seeing our residents happy and thriving.”
Much of her progress is due to the encouragement of Burnham Lodge’s management.
“They have always enabled me to learn new skills, thoroughly explaining all the processes to me. They know I am a practical learner, so they always get me involved in whatever task they are showing me.
“Our HR administrator Lee Fort is also always encouraging me, so I am always willing to go the extra mile so that I don’t disappoint.”
From her experiences at Burnham Lodge, Simba recommends working in the care sector: “I would encourage anyone to do so. It is the most fulfilling experience when you can see the difference you are making to the residents’ lives.”
