Introducing Trish Harris, Ashley Grange’s New Home Manager
Hartford Care is delighted to announce the appointment of Trish Harris as the new manager of Ashley Grange Nursing Home in Downton, Wiltshire.
Trish brings with her to Ashley Grange a wealth of experience in mental health nursing and management, her particular interest being in dementia care.
She started as a carer in Surrey nursing homes and hospital settings when she was 20, but opted to take a business-orientated degree, qualified as an accountant, and worked at a bank for a while.
However, Trish realised her heart was in nursing so, in 2015, she studied to be a psychiatric nurse, working her way up to become a staff nurse in an intensive psychiatric unit at a hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This led to roles in rehabilitation, intensive care, psychiatric liaison and then to a low secure unit.
Trish then worked as a psychiatric nurse in a nursing home and was appointed as the deputy manager of a home run by a charity organisation. “It was a great experience,” Trish recalls, “I absolutely loved it. As a nurse, I had more time to engage with the residents and, I was able to develop my leadership and team management skills. I had a great mentor who helped me focus on dementia care which is where my interest in this area began.”
Trish then became the manager of an Aylesbury nursing home, which unfortunately closed last year, so she, her husband and two daughters moved to Wiltshire, where she applied for the nursing home manager role at Ashley Grange.
She is passionate about promoting work and training around dementia care.
“My priority at Ashley Grange is to build a dedicated team of carers and nurses who feel supported in their roles and who are totally committed to providing the best possible care for our residents, especially in dementia care. I would be really interested to hear from anyone who shares our core values and would like to come and work for us.”
Ashley Grange was acquired by Hartford Care a year ago and is currently undergoing a major refurbishment to make it even better and more comfortable for its residents and team members.
