Learning At Work Week

This week is Learning at Work Week, its aim being to put the spotlight on the importance and benefits of continual learning and development.

The culture of Learning at Work is one which Hartford Care fully embraces. We actively encourage our teams at Head Office in Basingstoke and at our 16 care and nursing homes to develop their careers by studying for Diplomas and other qualifications relating to care or their specialist roles within the company.

Here, Rebecca Pedley, Hartford Care’s HR Advisor, explains how, with Hartford Care’s support, she has seen her career go from strength to strength.

“I started at Hartford Care in 2017 as a Business Administration Apprentice after finishing my BSc in Psychology, having only previously worked in retail. When I completed my apprenticeship, I fully adopted the role of HR Administrator and continued my learning with a Level 3 Diploma in Human Resource Practice.

“It presented me with an opportunity to gain wider knowledge and skills beyond administration and learn more about HR, people and the business. Once I had completed my Level 3 Diploma, I went straight onto the Level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management. This has become extremely useful this year now that I’ve progressed further in my career as an HR Advisor and can really utilise that learning.

“I had almost no experience of HR before joining the company, and little experience of care from college work experience many years before. The skills and knowledge I’ve developed during my career with Hartford Care, and having the opportunity to study courses which enable that development and career progression, have truly been invaluable to me in a personal and professional capacity.

“I would always say that there is no harm in asking about courses that interest you in your career development plans because there are so many learning opportunities available at all levels in the company, and every role can be a career-progressive role to help you with your aspirations.”
