Carer talks with resident about postcard dementia

Dementia Care

We take great pride in offering the highest standards of residential dementia care in each of our homes. The level of care we give to each one of our residents is exactly what we would want our own loved ones to receive. Hartford Care residents are encouraged to maintain their own lifestyles in a way which reflects their own personal choices, enabling them to have as much independence as possible.

Whilst we can’t take away the confusion of living with, or watching someone you love living with dementia, we can help. Providing quality care and companionship, with mental, emotional and physical stimulation, quality nutrition, in a safe and secure environment all contribute to leading a more content life.

Individual care

There are many different types and different levels of dementia that have varying symptoms.  All our carers are fully trained in dementia care and work hard to get to know the individuals well enough to enable us to support them with warmth, patience and understanding and provide the right level of care tailored to their individual and often changing needs.

Dementia-friendly living space

We understand surroundings can make a huge difference to those living with dementia, so we have incorporated several measures to help create a safer and happier environment for our residents with dementia:

  • Toilet doors: All our toilet doors have been made very clear to help residents easily identify the facilities and assist in maintaining their independence, continence and dignity
  • Staff Uniforms: All our staff wear easy to identify shirts to enable residents to recognise members of our team more easily
  • Gardens: The majority of our homes have secure gardens for our residents to access freely – whether it be to work in, as part of an activity, or to relax in – either on their own or with others

Activities & Dementia

After a diagnosis of dementia, it is important to keep on enjoying the things that make us happy in life.  Each home offers a full weekly calendar of activities, where our residents can pick and choose those in which they wish to participate.  All our activities are developed in line with varying abilities and interests, designed to keep our residents engaged, stimulated and active or, perhaps, even intrigued – with the opportunity to try something new.

Food & Dementia

It goes without saying that food plays a pivotal role in promoting health and well-being, but we also understand that dementia may cause changes in individuals’ relationships with food due to a loss of appetite, changes in taste, difficulties in hand coordination or chewing problems.  Our chefs are trained to cater for any diet or appetite, and they are truly passionate about the quality of the food they serve to our residents.   They recognise the importance of providing meals that are colourful and tasty to all of our residents, and will go out of their way to make different dishes for residents whose appetites need tempting.

Enjoying life doesn’t have to stop with the diagnosis of dementia! At Hartford Care our aim is to help residents make the most of enjoying every single day with the reassurance that their needs, feelings and wishes remain at the forefront of everything we do.
