Tim, a resident at Hartford Care’s Boulters Lock care home in Maidenhead, was recently able to meet up with a former colleague whom he hadn’t seen for nearly 30 years, thanks to Hartford Care’s Hospitality and Wellbeing Manager, Lindsay Mahoney.
“One afternoon, Tim and I were chatting about his working life, and he mentioned he’d worked at Macmillan Publishers. My best friend’s father, John, had also worked there, and it turns out Tim knew him!”
Tim, who was the Director of Publishing, and John, who had made his way up to Stock Control Manager from joining the company at 16, had worked together for almost 40 years. Sadly, when Tim retired, the colleagues lost touch.
“Following this conversation I was thrilled to be able to arrange for Tim and John to meet. The pair went out for lunch, with Tim waiting at the window holding an Arsenal sign, as he’d remembered John was an Arsenal supporter! It was heartwarming to witness the reunion with the pair having a lovely catch-up over lunch and a beer. Moments like these are magical and remind us all that it’s the little things in life that often mean the most.”

“It was incredible to see a dear old friend. It brought back so many happy memories. A special thank you to Lindsay for making it happen – Hartford Care is truly amazing!”
Now, Tim and John are now able to stay in touch and are looking forward to meeting up again soon.

Boulters Lock is set in an impressive late Victorian building and retains many of its original features. The home offers dementia care, residential care, respite breaks, day care and end of life care across its 32 en suite bedrooms.
Hartford Care recently invested £100,000 in a new extension, linking the lounge and dining room to create a light, airy space with direct access to the renovated garden. Alongside this, there’s a new servery in the dining room, a hair salon, and a new communal shower room. All the fully furnished en suite bedrooms are spacious and ready for residents to personalise as they wish. Some of the ground-floor bedrooms benefit from private balconies overlooking the secluded garden.
