We are delighted to announce that four Hartford Care employees have graduated as Care Practitioners, having successfully completed the 2021 development programme.

Congratulations go to our latest Care Practitioner graduates, Lola Torzsa at Hartford Court in Portsmouth; Sophie Doyle at Woodlands House in the New Forest, and Kim Gibson and Teri Kilford, both at West Cliff Hall in Hythe, Hampshire.

Their graduation took place at West Cliff Hall, where Hartford Care’s CEO Sean Gavin presented them with their yellow Care Practitioner polo shirts.

This third Care Practitioner cohort which started in January this year was rolled out to four care homes with Shirley Bartlett, Hartford Care’s Quality Support Manager, taking over the running of the programme in April.

Hartford Care’s Care Practitioner Development Programme comprises workshops, coursework, competency assessments and reflective practice and offers the opportunity to undertake a formal qualification at the end.

A range of topics covered include undertaking clinical observations, infections and sepsis, acute medical conditions, hydration, catheter and stoma care, advanced medication management and End of Life care.

It also features a series of leadership topics such as getting the best out of individuals and teams and having difficult conversations. Because of the pandemic, most of the programme’s workshops were delivered virtually.

The development programme was designed to ensure residents, who live in Hartford Care’s 16 homes,  continue to receive high quality care and support from knowledgeable and professional staff with more in-depth knowledge in particular areas, as well as providing a new career pathway for team members.

Shirley Bartlett said of the graduates: “They have all worked incredibly hard, showing commitment and dedication to the programme throughout. I am really looking forward to seeing them develop and grow in their roles as care practitioners. The care homes in which they work are very lucky to have them and the difference they will make to the health and well-being of our residents. We are all very proud of Lola, Sophie, Kim and Teri.”

Hartford Care now has nine Care Practitioners who have graduated from the programme which started in April 2019.

Teri Kilford (West Cliff Hall)
