We provide 24-hour nursing, dementia, residential and respite care in Hawkhurst, near Cranbrook. From the outset, we get to know you personally, supporting you to settle into a private care suite of your own, set in peaceful Kent countryside.
Hawkhurst House
Set in the historic village of Hawkhurst, within Kent's High Weald, Hawkhurst House offers 24-hour nursing care, residential care, dementia care, and respite stays. Rather than standard bedrooms, residents live in private care suites, each with its own kitchenette and living space, a genuine step up in independence from a typical nursing home room.
Good nursing care is about more than clinical skill, it's about really knowing the person you're caring for. That's the standard we hold ourselves to at Hawkhurst House, where staff take the time to learn each resident's history and preferences, not just their medication chart. Spouses can stay together here too, because a diagnosis shouldn't mean a couple has to be separated. It's this attentiveness that residents and families notice first.

Every resident's needs are different, and at Hawkhurst House, care is never a fixed template applied the same way to everyone. Whether it's nursing, dementia, residential or respite care that's needed, it's delivered by the same experienced team, with the same attention to detail throughout. Explore what each type of care involves below.

Hello, I’m Chris, the Registered Manager of Hawkhurst House. I’ve worked in the social care sector since 1995 – older peoples’ services, learning disabilities, dementia, physical disabilities and sight impairment. I believe I’m a natural ‘people person’ with a strong sense of empathy and compassion. Our aim at Hawkhurst House is to support residents to feel both physically and emotionally safe so their loved ones can go back to being husbands, wives, sons and daughters and where everyone feels at home. On entering Hawkhurst House visitors comment about how warm and welcoming it is, so come and see for yourself by popping in for a coffee, piece of cake and a chat.

Step into Hawkhurst House and the view is the first thing you notice, extensive, peaceful grounds within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, genuinely visible from the windows, not just mentioned in passing. Inside, care suites replace the standard nursing home room, private living space and a kitchenette included, so family visits feel less like a hospital appointment and more like popping round. Spacious lounges and bright dining rooms give residents somewhere to gather, while separate areas for nursing and dementia care mean support is properly tailored, never generic.

Every resident has their own kitchenette and living space, not just a bedroom, offering a level of independence rarely found in nursing care.

A dedicated unit supporting people recovering from a hospital stay, helping them rebuild independence and confidence before returning home.

Landscaped grounds with accessible pathways, sensory planting, and peaceful spaces for relaxation and family visits.

A dedicated gym gives residents the chance to stay active and build strength safely, whether that’s part of structured rehabilitation or simply staying mobile and independent.
For families searching for a compassionate, quality care home in Cranbrook, Hawkhurst House offers a warm welcome and personalised care tailored just for you. Book to arrange a visit and discover the difference of Hartford Care.

Hawkhurst House sits on the edge of the village it's named after, with St Laurence Church and its distinctive white weatherboard tower a familiar landmark nearby. Accompanied outings make the most of it, whether that is a stroll into the village for its independent shops and traditional pubs, or a longer trip out to Cranbrook and its historic Union Mill, Bedgebury National Pinetum, Sissinghurst Castle Garden, or Royal Tunbridge Wells and its historic Pantiles. Genuine ties with local churches, schools and businesses mean it's rare for a week to go by without a familiar face from the village dropping in. It is a home that keeps residents connected to the village and countryside so many of them already know well.
